It is not often you see a model clad in a hijab strutting herself on the runway, let alone making it on to the cover of Vogue Arabia magazine.

Halima Aden, a Somali-American model aged 19, is breaking the stereotypes of Muslim women by getting featured on various high profile magazine covers such as Allure July issue while donning Nike’s new performance hijab with the words “This is American Beauty” spread across the cover.

She received her big break in 2016 when she entered the Miss Minnesota pageant as the first hijabi to compete in a hijab and burkini (a swimming suit that covers the body, typically worn by Muslim women).

Although she did not win the Miss Minnesota title, her participation gained her recognition which led her into signing a modelling contract with IMG Models, who represents famous models such as Gigi Hadid, Ashley Graham, Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen and also bagging her a spot at the Yeezy runway show.

Take a look at some of Halima Aden’s previous runway shows and cover spreads  below!
