Read how the miracle of organ transplants have touched the lives of these celebrities

It’s arguably the greatest gift anyone can receive: a life-saving organ via a transplant. And, like the 30,000 people a year who get an organ transplant, celebrities are not immune to needing help. Here are some famous faces who have received organ transplants, alongside those who have generously donated organs themselves:

RECEIVED: Selena Gomez

On September 14, Selena Gomez announced that in the summer of 2017, she got a kidney transplant. “I found out I needed a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed for my overall health,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post surgery.”

Natasha Richardson

DONATED: Natasha Richardson 

Tragedy struck when actress Natasha Richardson passed away in 2009 following a skiing accident. Her husband, fellow actor Liam Neeson, says that while he still struggles with her death, he is proud that the family decided to donate her organs to save the lives of others. She donated her heart, her kidneys and her liver.

SArah Hyland

RECEIVED: Sarah Hyland 

Sarah has battled kidney dysplasia for almost all her life, and in April 2012 she got a kidney transplant from her father. In 2012, she told a magazine, “You know family is always going to be there for you – no matter what. My father gave me a freakin kidney!” The Modern Family star later added, “I have a second chance at life – not many people get that.”

steve jobs

RECEIVED: Steve Jobs 

In 2009, the late Apple co-founder received a liver transplant at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Centre. He died two years later. A few years after his death, the hospital received an anonymous US$40 million in donation.

Tracy Morgan

RECEIVED: Tracy Morgan 

Tracy Morgan received a kidney transplant in 2010 after suffering complications due to diabetes. His donor was his ex-girlfriend, Tanisha Hall. Yes, they were exes at that time (and still are!). The comedian thanked her on the red carpet at the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards, telling the media, “I’d like to thank Tanisha for donating a kidney to me.”
