The Weekly’s Restaurant Review: Sapore

Indulge in the authentic taste of Italian and Spanish food and fine wine

By Prasna Devi | November 27, 2017

Located in a rather nondescript block of shop houses in the heart of Ampang, KL, Sapore is a new casual must-check-out dining destination. Sapore simply means flavour in Italian. Serving the real taste of Italian and Spanish cuisine – from the preparation of the food up to the serving on your table – Sapore’s owner Chef Fabio Giero who comes from Bari, the capital city of southern Italy’s Puglia region, delivers a masterpiece of artisan food right from the bottom of his heart.

Sapore is located at  18, Persiaran Ampang, Desa Pahlawan, Ampang, 55000 Kuala Lumpur.

This is a non-halal restaurant.

cold cut platter

Cold Cut Platter, RM88

This platter of cold cut meats imported from Spain and Italy is just amazing! We savoured each slice of the fine meat with the restaurant’s signature Focaccia bread (MUST TRY!).

beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes

Beef Bourguignon with Mashed Potato, RM58

Beef cheek cooked with wine, bay leaf, rosemary and thyme, and served with creamy mashed potato, you will see why this is one of our personal favourites. Did we mention the meat was incredibly tender and succulent?

Tuna tartar

Tuna Tartar with Avocado Guacamole, RM38

Do not leave the restaurant without trying this! Using the loin of yellow tuna served with the famous avocado sauce in Mexico called guacamole, this tuna tartar is so refreshing that you will be craving for more! What makes it even more special? It is served in an avocado shell.

scrambled egg with truffle and mushrooms(1)

Scrambled Eggs Bacon Truffle Oil, RM32

Did you know that the luxurious truffle flavour works best with the simplest ingredients such as eggs? Lucky for us, Chef Fabio prepared a scrumptious dish by adding crispy imported bacon to the scrambled eggs and truffle. We love how it is so rich and just melts in the mouth!

pappardelle wild boar

Pappardelle Wild Boar & Pecorino, RM38

If this is your first time hearing the word papperdelle, let us tell you that pappardelle are actually large, broad, flat pasta noodles (similar to wide fettucine).

This dish deserves a special shout out as the papperdelle pasta is Chef Fabio’s own home-made flat pasta. The wild boar is marinated in red wine along with carrot, celery and onions for 24 hours before being cooked in real tomato sauce. With all the hardwork and time invested to prepare this dish, it’s no surprise that it turned out so delicious!

Sangria

Spanish Sangria, RM28 per glass

The Spanish Sangria traditionally consists of red wine from Spain and fresh fruit cuts. Sapore added Grand Marnier, Cognac, passion fruit syrup, as well as lemon and orange juice to make it even more refreshing!
