Want To Support Survivors of Domestic Violence? Here how

Hear the heartfelt experiences of those who have suffered

By Stephanie | December 8, 2017

Tina’s Journeys is a wonderful book, resulting from a two-year creative writing workshop with domestic violence survivors at the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) by author Bernice Chauly. Representing these voices and writings of the survivors is the character, Tina.

Tina was brought to life by artist Chan Wen Li, who hopes that Tina will represent and do justice to the multifaceted stories and musings of survivors. The book consists of a collection of words and poetry by the survivors. “The creative writing classes empowered us to express what long held within us. This helped us to come to terms with what had happened and to face our demons,” shares Linda Iskandar, a survivor of domestic violence who participated in the workshops.

“Writing is a tool of healing. We give voice to our pain, we name it. Writing can help us transform that pain into art,” says Bernice. This book aims to help spread awareness of what victims and survivors of domestic violence go through and to empower them.

Join in with this powerful message by domestic survivors and show them your support by heading on down to their book launch on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at RUANG by Think City from 1.30pm to 3pm. The launch will also feature a reading by Linda Iskandar.

You may also get your copy of Tina’s Journey by making a donation of RM30 or more via deposit to Women’s Aid Organisation, 80-0238299-7, CIMB with the reference “TINA”. Then email your delivery address and proof-of-payment to [email protected]
