We have a love for all things Play-Doh here at The Weekly. Who doesn’t right? This modelling compound loved by so many children around the world and comes in so many colours is the key to a whole new world, stopped only by one’s imagination.

Here are some interesting facts that we dug up that’ll make you love Play-Doh even more!

  • Play-Doh started only with four colours which are red, blue, yellow and white in 1956. Now Play-Doh brand has more than 50 colours available.
  • Play-Doh compound is made out of 3 main ingredients: water, salt and flour. So simple!
  • Over three billion Play-Doh cans sold around the world since 1956 and with all that Play-Doh compounds made, we can go to the moon and back three times!
  • It is estimated that the weight of all Play-doh compounds sold is heavier than 10,000 brontosauruses.
  • You can actually fit 172 pennies in every can of Play-Doh.
  • Cans of Play-Doh are made with a tapered edge so you can easily stack and store them to be reused again.
  • If you actually made a big ball of all Play-Doh compounds ever made, it would weigh more than 700 million pounds.
  • Play-Doh is the number one reusable modelling compound and over 500 million cans are produced each year.
  • Play-Doh was originally made and used as a wallpaper cleaner that was developed by a Cincinnati-based soap company.

PLUS The search is on for the ‘Doh-Bassador of Creativity’!

Organised by Hasbro Toy (Malaysia), children aged four to nine years old from around Malaysia to ‘Open A Can of Imagination” to produce their most original and creative sculpture using Play-Doh compound. With unlimited entries, the only limits are the limits of your imagination!

All you need to do is share a picture or video of their most creative sculpt made from Play-Doh compound on Instagram. All profiles need to be public and participants are required include a short description of their creation in less than 100 words, together with the hashtags #PlayDohMY and #DohBassadorMY. From August 1 – 31, 2017.

The appointed Doh-Bassador of Creativity will also have the chance to collaborate with a key influencer to create a series of Malaysian-inspired sculpts in celebration of World Play-Doh Day and Malaysia Day, both falling on September 16, 2017. The winner will also walk away with RM 1,000 worth of Play-Doh products! For more details, head here.
